The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 2:24 that “[Jesus] Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree,” and by His stripes we were healed. I love how the Holy Spirit puts the emphatic word, “Himself,” in this verse. It calls attention to the fact that it’s the very person of Jesus who paid the price for our healing! As we partake of the Holy Communion and believe God for our breakthrough, we're not only remembering the finished work on the cross, but we're remembering Who finished the work for us. Who bore our sins in His own body. Who took all our sicknesses and pains. We're remembering Jesus Himself!
When my daughter Jessica was young, I remember a time when she fell ill. And I felt so helpless because I just didn’t know how to make her feel better. At that moment, I felt prompted by the Lord to remember Him in the midst of my daughter’s illness and to worship Him. The more I worshipped Him, the more I took my eyes off my daughter’s illness and began to fix my eyes on Jesus and His great love for her. Before I knew it, Jessica was completely healed! I pray that this short testimony will encourage you to see how valuing the presence of Jesus brings the breakthroughs you’re waiting for.
